From the 5th to the 16th of June 2025, we had the honor of hosting a truly magical Youth Exchange in our beloved village of Gudevitsa — a small, peaceful corner of the Rhodope Mountains that has become a second home for many of us. This exchange, part of our ongoing Erasmus+ accreditation journey, welcomed 20 bright and curious young people from different backgrounds, who came together to learn, explore, and grow — both individually and as a community.
For 10 unforgettable days, we lived, learned, and transformed together. The rhythm of daily life slowed down, allowing space for real connection — to nature, to others, and to ourselves. Through shared experiences, laughter, and challenge, the minds and hearts of the participants opened. What began as a group of strangers evolved into a tight-knit circle of trust and friendship.
We immersed ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of the region — wandering along the banks of the Arda River, hiking through pine forests, marveling at the panoramic views from Snezhanka Tower, and discovering the hidden stories of ancient caves. Our adventures took us to a via ferrata where some overcame their fears and climbed together, step by step, while others soared through the trees on a zip line, carried by excitement and courage.
One of the most powerful moments came during our fire ceremony beneath the open sky. With stars above and flames dancing between us, we shared reflections, let go of what no longer served us, and spoke our hopes into the night. It was a moment of truth, vulnerability, and unity — a ritual of connection that left a lasting imprint on us all.
Guided forest walks, carefully designed with mindful tasks, allowed us to slow down and truly notice — the rustling of leaves, the beating of our own hearts, the gentle presence of others walking beside us. These moments reminded us of the simplicity and richness of being fully present.
A major highlight of the program was the vibrant intercultural evening in Smolyan, where we joined another youth exchange group for a celebration of diversity, creativity, and shared humanity. The room lit up with songs, dances, stories, and traditional flavors from across Europe — a colorful mosaic of cultures coming together in joyful expression.
We were also incredibly fortunate to attend a live concert by Ensemble Rhodopa at the open-air theater in Smolyan. Surrounded by the mountains, under the warm June sky, we were swept away by the powerful voices and rhythms of this legendary folk group. It was a night that stirred the soul and deepened our connection to the cultural richness of the region.
Looking back, this exchange was more than just a project. It was a shared journey — a space where personal transformations happened, where lifelong memories were made, and where the seeds of future change-makers were quietly planted.
We are deeply grateful to our amazing partners from Young Improvers for Youth Development (YIYD) and to every single person — participants, facilitators, locals, and supporters — who made this experience so meaningful.
🙏 Thank you for trusting the process, for showing up fully, and for walking this beautiful path with us.
Until we meet again — the spirit of Gudevitsa lives on in each of you.
